Earlier this week I had the chance to meet up with York, a local Orange County band, and talk about their new album, I Might, as well as their upcoming tour.
I think York is one of those bands you have to see live in order to appreciate their recorded sound. The energy they put into shows is so great, that it’s extremely difficult to capture in a recording. At first I wasn’t sure how I felt about it, but it’s the kind of album that grows on you until every song is stuck in your head. They even passed the “mom test.” My mom, who’s favorite album right now is Fleet Foxes’ “Helplessness Blues,” stopped what she was doing to tell me how much she liked whatever it was I was listening too. Every song on I Might has a different sound from the song before, and I think whatever kind of folk music you like there’s something on here for everyone. It definitely helps having seen them live though. So if you’re on the west coast, I suggest you look up their tour dates and see if they’re playing near you. And if you’re lazy, here’s “Sweet Whiskey” off the new album.
